So after a few anons brought to my attention how racist HB is I just made a horrifying realization...

We all know that Stolitz is a toxic and abusive ship where the abuser is portrayed as an UwU soft boy who did nothing wrong and the victim is portrayed as the bad guy for not loving his abuser (check out my post about Stolitz if you want more details). That's already problematic and bad enough, but once you factor in Stolas clearly being white-coded, and the fact that Barbie (Blitz's sister) has a black disguise, making Blitz black (or at least non-white) coded...

Oh. Oh SHIT. This is BAD. Do I need to explain why this is extremely racist in every single way??? The white-coded character is portrayed as an UwU soft boy and has all of his bad actions excused cuz he has a mean wife meanwhile the non-white-coded character is portrayed as in the wrong for NOT wanting to get sexually abused by the white one and is constantly demonized.

The WHITE CODED CHARACTER is sexually abusing and coercing the NON-WHITE CODED CHARACTER, and the show pretends that the latter is the bad guy while the former is just an UwU soft boy.

Oh, but it actually gets worse, because Loona, another white-coded character, beats the shit out of Blitz, the non-white-coded character, and it's played for laughs and she never once apologizes for it.

I really don't want to say that Viv is racist, it's probably just unintentional, but...

Did nobody look at this and realize "Oh shit this has racist undertones". This wouldn't be so bad if the show made Stolas and Loona grow as people, buuuuuut we all know that was not the route Viv decided to take.

Flatland 2007

Unfortunately I do like the 2007 movie adaptation of Flatland, I've read the original book and like it more I certainly reccomend it! But the visual design in Flatland 2007 is awfully appealing to me. I wanted to draw some art of these designs, I may draw more, I may even create my own adaptations. But on the topic:

The guy who made the 2007 adaptation is a huge butt. Racist, mysoginist, incredibly ironic considering Abbott the creator of the Flatland book from all the way back in Victorian times believed in womans rights and helped women get educations. Abbott was a pretty progressive guy and Flatland was written as a satire criticising the strict and cruel norms of the time.

Which brings me to Ladd Ehlinger, the creator of the 2007 movie. I must wonder how absolutely dense must one be to create a movie adaptation of one of Abbott's works and proceed to be the very kind of person Abbott was producing satire against?

Luckily Abbott's messages can still be just about seen in the movie albeit tainted and watered down quite a bit. It's all deeply ironic

Rant over. The 2007 movie is as old as me and Ladd Ehlinger recieves no financial benefit from the movie as it is completely free to watch so I don't think drawing art of it is necessarily bad. I'll never understand why Lily is always just portrayed as a perfect social justice warrior who's some golden standard for the boys to try and reach up to and who's right all the time instead of an actual, flawed person. We hardly have anything about her in canon, so why do ppl insist on sticking to the same trope? I have often seen lily being portrayed as rather complex, in the sense of examining how the society impacts her, but not in the sense of being her being flawed or not immediately (or ever) right about/ good at everything

Prejudice is ingrained in the wizarding world, those fuckers like to hate on literally everyone, so there's a huge chance that their literature is going to be biased as well. Give me a lily who's trying to understand and navigate this completely new world with mythical creatures from scratch and who believes what the society tells her about them (even decent wizards like the Weasleys had certain prejudices, like against werewolves,half giants, and house elves,it's not just the Slytherins and DEs, so how can she tell what's right or wrong immediately?), and who takes a while to understand that it's the same sort of prejudice she's facing (much like ppl in the real world). Give me a lily who doesn't immediately, or ever, completely understand the complications of politics and the upcoming war as well as, say, characters like Sirius because, well, she's still a child who's new to all of this, and it's not the sort of thing she's ever had to concern herself with (unlike Sirius who grew up in a family that placed heavy influence on social standing). Give me a lily who's ready to make excuses for Snape not out of any reason that would make her look sympathetic, but simply because it wasn't affecting her personally until now (before anyone tries to point to that incident of her calling Snape out on his friends hexing Mary McDonald, she only raised concerns about Snape's company coz they performed dark magic, not because of their racist beliefs).

Or if that's too much to handle, we could at least stick to the few flawed things she does in canon. Like when she doesn't care to listen to Snape's version of the werewolf incident and relies on rumours instead, or when she almost smiles when Snape's pants are being exposed in front of a jeering crowd. People try to spin that around too to make Lily's perspective understandable and sympathetic, and sure, everyone has their own takes, but idk, there seems to be this great necessity to make it such that she's not viewed in a negative light for anything

Hot take, but ppl like to go on abt how women in fiction or in the fandom are critiqued too much, how people can't handle complex female characters, and how much they support women's wrongs, but they always end up confining female characters to being Good and Right all the time and characterize any constructive criticism/negative portrayal of the character as being wrong or mysoginistic.

Hazbin Hotel Headcanons pt 2

the Vices and the Goetias are some sort of uncles and aunts for Charlie, so this means...

... Stolas used to babysit Charlie when she was little and from that experience, he realized he could be a better father than his own...

Charlie managed to convince the elevator guys to let Vaggie visit the rest of Hell in occasion for her first birthday as her girlfriend: in that occasion, they had dinner at Ozzie's, Charlie improvised a duet with Fizz that made Vaggie laugh out loud and then they moved to the party Bee organized for her (Vaggie wasn't immune to Bee's charm and when she realized Charlie had noticed it, she felt ashamed by that, but her girlfriend shrugged because 'Aunt Bee always does this effect to introvert people' and everything turned out okay)

Vaggie had a crush on Lute when she first joined the Exorcist Army, but it didn't last for long... that being sad, it hurt knowing Lute was the responsible for her fall

after it was revealed the Extermination would have been in six months, Vaggie got drunk and started commiserating herself for not being a good girlfriend for Charlie. Husk tried to comfort her, saying that she was the princess's anchor because he heard Charlie saying that (and he has a pair eyes) when Vaggie dropped his secret... the morning after she talked with Husk (in spanish to not be understood by others) and he assured her he would have not revealed the secret because he was none of his business...

... unfortunately spanish is similar to italian and Val occasionally speaks spanish, so Angel asked him what was this big secret Vaggie was trying to hide and Husk told him it was something stupid, nothing important... of course he revealed the truth after the couple came back from Heaven

Lucifer actually cooked pancakes for everyone after the hotel was rebuilt and then spent the next days making personalized ducks for everyone...

... yeah, he even did one for Alastor and agreed to co-parent Charlie in absence of Lilith (Alastor took the duck because 'why not? It's not bad', but then he didn't know how to feel about the other thing because he didn't like to get attached to all the Hotel gang and this was going against his plan)

living in the 40s and 50s means that sometime Vox says some mysoginistic, racist or homophobic stuff, but Valentino and Velvette are always ready to point that out... luckily, Vox is willing to learn and has a long list of the things he can say and he can't say

when they first met, Val started flirting with Vox but Vox was walking eteronormativity due to his upbringing and dismissed his avances...

... but Val had the feeling Vox wasn't straight and after seeing his reaction to the news that Judy Garland had died after he arrived in Hell, he was happy to be right

after episode 4, Angel always received flowers and sweets at the studio from the Hotel gang in order to show him support (Val doesn't know that, he thinks those are just presents from Angel's fans)

Lucifer didn't immediately understand Angel's gender, so he tried with female pronouns and when Angel replied, he believed he was a girl until Charlie told him he was male. Actually Angel wasn't really bothered because Lucifer was the only one to use female prounons for him and not in a derogatory way, so sometimes Lucifer still uses them for him

The movie Angel showed to the Hotel gang was the last movie he did before his relationship with Val started to crack... that's why he got so mad when Husk critized it...

... after episode 4, Angel realized Husk did indeed watched some of his movies and Husk admitted he watched a few of his first movies and those are better than the new ones (the new ones as the ones he did with Val) and Angel was happy that someone still remembered those, where plot and quality still mattered

Alastor actually ships Huskerdust! He was the first to notice Husk's attraction to Angel and told the bartender they would have been such a cute couple despite their differences... Husk didn't know how to feel, but at least he was happy Alastor didn't meddle when he and Angel started to get closer

So, I know that things look rough for the Dems right now, but I really think we need to keep in mind that we probably won’t have the full vote count for days. Is it going to take as long as 2020? Doubtful, we are not at the height fo the Covid pandemic. But with all of the election laws by state that have been passed before this election, we are definitely having the vote count slowed down more than it should be.

Also of note, we’ve been warned that at the beginning of the night that Donald would be surging ahead. This is for multiple reasons. The states that get called first are generally dependably red states, the first part of the vote count is going to be the same day voting, while the absentee and mail in ballots do not get counted (for the most part) until the day of and in some cases, they can’t be counted until polls officially close on Election Day.

Please keep in mind that it’s not over yet. Keep the faith and remember that all elections are important, from national to local.

We can do this folks. I believe in us.

(And if the orange menace wins another term, then we have to do everything in our power to work against his bigoted, racist, mysoginistic ass. America is our country, and we have to do what we can to make it a country that we want to live in. It’s hard thankless work, but it’s also worth it. Ike Amadi, Davrin’s VA, follows a lot of transphobic/mysoginistic accounts on twitter. I hope people can remember to separate the VA from the character, and people don’t use this as an excuse to hate on Davrin/be racist.

That sucks.

But this goes for all the VAs. They are not their characters. They are artists employed to perform.

I've seen some straight up disturbing invasive behaviour in the BG3 fandom when it comes to the VAs for that game, and I hope to god that's not repeated here.
